One of the most amazing children’s workers I’ve ever known, rarely worked with kids. Barbara was not your typical children’s worker, but rather a tiny little white-haired grandma in her 80’s that rarely spoke a word. She was not necessarily the type of person you would see working one-on-one with kids, but she loved seeing them come to know Jesus. Now you might ask, “how did this woman have such a huge impact on kids if she didn’t work with them?” Simple, she did it by serving behind the scenes. If there was a children’s ministry event that needed setting up, organizing, getting materials for or decorating, she was there to help. She was the perfect type of person to help lead kids to Jesus in children’s ministry.
Sometimes the people you need the most in children’s ministry are those who are willing to help put things together and organize resources. Rarely do these people get noticed by others, but God does certainly see all their effort and it pleases Him. Jesus, in Matthew 6, told His disciples to give (v.1-4), pray (v.5-6), and fast (v.16-18), but not for the praises of man; rather for the pleasure of God. Jesus goes on to tell them, “When you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place… Your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (v. 6,18).
On July 10th through the 13th (in Sutherlin) and on July 17th through the 20th (in Green) Family Church is having our Maker Fun Factory VBS. We are looking for people of all backgrounds and personalities to help out. Perhaps, you never really considered helping out with Vacation Bible School because you don’t have the type of personality you enjoys being in front of a lot of people but that doesn’t mean that God does not want to include you in what He’s doing in the lives of children. We are looking for people to help out with preparing snacks and meals, decorating, organizing and a list of other behind the scenes jobs and we look forward to having you be a part of our team.
Even though Barbara didn’t really work with kids directly, she had a huge part in leading children to Christ. Now, you have the opportunity to do the same and I look forward to serving with you.
